Craig Johnson, author of the Walt Longmire Mysteries, is on a nationwide tour to promote his new novel, “Depth of Winter.” We met at the The Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ to talk about this book, the annual Longmire Days festival in Wyoming, and the unique origin of his yearly book tours.

Season Two ends with two big interviews: Tombstone city historian Don Taylor and the mayor of Tombstone, Dusty Escapule. We put the gunfight at the O.K. Corral to rest; discuss the Cowboys, early days of Tombstone, and the fires and devastated the town; and finally, we learned that Mayor Escapule’s great grandfather is the man most often confused with Doc Holliday.

Author Jeff Guinn wrote the New York Times bestseller, “The Last Gunfight: The Real Story of the Shootout at the O.K. Corral — And How It Changed the American West.” He joined the show to dissect the most famous gunfight in the Old West.

In the season finale, Wyatt Earp takes the law into his own hands. He forms a posse that includes Doc Holliday and begins a quest to destroy the Cowboys. His pursuit becomes front page news across the country as newspapers begin to call it the “Arizona Vendetta.” When it’s all over, three Cowboys are dead; Wyatt and Doc are some of the most famous men in America; and they can never set foot in Arizona again.

A stagecoach robbery sets in motion events that will lead to the collision of the Earps and the Cowboys. The Cowboys transform into an outlaw army that almost starts a war with Mexico. Tensions between the Earps and the Cowboys finally erupt in the most legendary gunfight of the American West.

Wyatt Earp and his brothers arrive in Tombstone, and immediately clash with the Clantons and McLaurys. Doc Holliday journeys to Tombstone and quickly makes enemies with important businessmen. Curly Bill Brocius kills Tombstone’s first town marshal.
S2 | E1: TOMBSTONE — “All That Glitters”

8/12/18

Wyatt Earp earns a reputation as a peace officer in the tough cowtowns of Kansas before his brother Virgil entices him to move west. Doc Holliday begins a promising career as a dentist in Georgia before tuberculosis, and possibly darker troubles, drive him out of the South. Holliday and the Earps converge on a mining camp called Tombstone in the Arizona desert with dreams of making their fortunes.
