BLACK SOX — Chapter Six: “Eight Men Out”

9/11/19

The scandal crashes down on eight Chicago White Sox players and 10 gamblers. The criminal trial is a fiasco, though it ends well for the defendants. But the new commissioner of baseball is not beholden to the courts and he levies the ultimate punishment against the players.
After years of failed appeals, the players must make new lives for themselves. Most play with outlaw teams across the country while three former teammates in Chicago enjoy Hall of Fame careers. And the story ends with a memorable reunion of the two of the greatest hitters of all time.

BLACK SOX — Chapter Two: “A Turbulent Year”

8/14/19

The early 20th century was a time of great upheaval around the world. In America, race riots and bombings and the fear of Communism sweep across the country, and baseball secures its position as the nation’s past time. Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb and the other stars of the Deadball Era rise to prominence and fans flock to stadiums to watch them play.
The Chicago White Sox navigate the 1919 season and by the end of the year, they are on the verge of a World Series berth. Behind the scenes, some of the players begin to discuss the possibility of a big payday during the Series, much bigger than the bonuses they would earn for participating in the event.
